What is Campfire Forecast?

Forecast is a near-term income statement forecast built into the ERP. It shows where the month will land on any day of the month, starting from posted actuals and every schedule already committed in your subledgers, with Ember estimating the remainder. It replaces the mid-month spreadsheet, not the annual plan.

What are Actuals, Committed, and Estimated?

Three layers, one income statement. Actuals are what has already posted to the general ledger. Committed is everything already scheduled in your four subledgers, revenue, prepaids, fixed assets, and leases, shown as if it had posted; these are known dollars with no AI involved, and every one traces back to a contract, bill, asset, or lease already in Campfire. Estimated is Ember's call on the part of the month that hasn't happened yet, starting from Committed as the floor.

Does Ember post anything to the general ledger?

No. Estimated is advisory only. Nothing posts to the ledger on its own; you still review and post at close the way you do today.

How is this different from a planning tool?

Accepted Answer

A planning tool reads the future without owning the ledger, so its numbers are an export and an opinion. Forecast starts from committed dollars already scheduled in Campfire's own subledgers, so most of the month is known, not modeled. Planning tools are still the right tool for the annual plan; Forecast is built for the mid-month “where are we landing” question.

What does Ember use to estimate?

Your own history in Campfire (month over month, year over year, seasonality), how this month compares to the same point in prior months, notes you type in directly (“about to spend $40k on contractors”), attached documents like a headcount plan or driver file, and connected sources through MCP such as CRM pipeline, HRIS, or a data warehouse. Click any number to see “What Ember assumed” in one sentence, along with the posted, committed, and estimated split.

Can I change the methodology?

Yes. Add a note, attach a document, or connect a source, then click Re-run with Ember or Save & re-estimate. The estimate updates; the ledger doesn't. The drawer shows the last run time.

How do I turn it on?

Accepted Answer

Existing Campfire customers can enable Forecast in-app or through their CS contact. For new customers, it's included as part of implementation.

Does Campfire have continuous close, like Rillet?

Accepted Answer

Continuous close means posting future-dated entries so you can see them on the P&L before month end. Campfire's Committed view shows that same picture, every schedule read forward, without changing when things actually post, so you still review and post at close, which is what auditors expect. Forecast then goes a step further and estimates the part of the month that hasn't happened yet, which is the piece no continuous-close model provides on its own.
