About
Fora Travel is an all-in-one tech platform that provides travel entrepreneurs with the AI tools, training, and support to start and build successful travel businesses. Founded in 2021, Fora has been named one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Organizations of 2025 and has raised $60 million in funding from top firms, including Thrive Capital and Insight Partners.
Challenge
Scaling Accounting Workflows to Support Rapid, Multi-Entity Growth
Fora’s mission to democratize travel entrepreneurship gained fast traction, enabling the company to surpass $1 billion in bookings within its first four years. But while this fast validation propelled Fora into hypergrowth, it also exposed the limits of its QuickBooks-powered accounting flows.
As Fora’s user count grew to over 12 thousand active travel advisors a month, QuickBooks could no longer support the company’s growing transaction volume or, more importantly, its expanding subsidiary structure. Besides lacking a cross-entity view, QuickBooks also didn’t enable Controller Adam Schneider and his team to maintain distinct charts of accounts and books for each subsidiary. The result? A painstakingly manual accounting workflow that increased the risk of error and created hours of internal review and reconciliation work.
Working across so much data wasn’t an isolated headache; it threw off the rhythm of the entire close management process. Because there were many moving pieces to manage, the spreadsheets Adam’s team used to track tasks, owners, and deadlines were often a step behind the actual work. This lack of real-time visibility prevented Adam from delivering finalized actuals to Fora’s team with the speed and confidence the business required. Delayed reports, in turn, made it harder for the team to produce the most effective forecasts.
To eliminate this operational drag and shore up Fora’s explosive growth, Adam needed a powerful, modern ERP that could automate core accounting workflows. He tested several legacy and modern solutions, but Campfire immediately stood out for its user-friendly, AI-first features and clear commitment to customer success.
"When your transaction volume is spiking, and you’re adding multiple subsidiaries per year, QuickBooks just doesn’t make sense anymore. Campfire’s AI-first ERP was the obvious next step."
Solution
An Enterprise-Ready ERP That Puts Core Accounting Operations on Autopilot
Campfire delivered the multi-entity reporting capabilities and streamlined close management workflows Fora needed to move fast and scale efficiently.
Today, all Fora and its subsidiaries’ transaction data is centralized in Campfire’s general ledger. Because the platform integrates with Fora’s broader finance stack, including Ramp, Routable, and every banking partner, Adam’s team can manage each subsidiary’s books through Campfire while seamlessly rolling them up into broader group financials. Now they don't have to spend hours hopping between spreadsheets to accurately consolidate multiple entities; they can do it in just a few clicks.
Close management is also much more streamlined. Instead of scrambling to update a Google Sheet, the team tracks each close with Campfire’s integrated checklist, which provides a real-time view of who’s performed and reviewed each task. This makes it easy for Adam to monitor progress, preempt bottlenecks, and gut-check every line item, from payroll to bank reconciliations.
The efficiency gains trickle down to post-close handoff as well. Using Campfire’s tagging feature, the team can classify activity by business unit and subsidiary, so the actuals Adam passes to FP&A arrive already structured with the dimensions needed for analysis. This granularity sets the stage for sharper forecasting, scenario planning, and, in turn, decision-making.
While the team spends most of their time in Campfire’s general ledger, they’ve recently been using its revenue recognition capabilities for Fora’s newer subsidiaries. And, to Adam’s delight, the whole workflow is automated. Campfire handles ASC-606-compliant revenue accounting, prepares journal entries for recognized and deferred revenue, and tracks unbilled accounts receivable by customer and contract. The team can even use its prepaid module to defer and amortize unconventional revenue in the same way as standard contracts.
But for Adam, Campfire’s hands-on approach to the partnership was the true value add. Whether Adam has a question about a use case, needs a bug fix, or wants to put in a feature request, the team is always available through Slack, and response times have been in minutes, not hours. “Support is something that Campfire just does right,” he shares. “You always have access to the people you need rather than sifting through help centers or submitting tickets.”
“Campfire’s platform is so intuitive and thoughtfully designed. My accountants say it dramatically cuts down on manual work and makes their lives easier.”
Results
Boosted Efficiency, Multi-Entity Support, and a Future-Proof Accounting Function
Campfire empowered Fora to stand up a scalable accounting function that complements its ambitious growth trajectory, all without adding complexity or headcount.
- 33% increase in overall accounting efficiency
- Shaved 2 days off close
- 9-person accounting team supporting $2B+ in bookings
Looking ahead, Adam is especially eager to start incorporating Ember into more of his team’s workflows. While they’ve already started using it to query data, Adam imagines a future where Campfire’s AI owns more staff-level work and frees up human accountants to be the review layer.
“Campfire imagines what their customers need tomorrow and builds the tools today. We plan to double or triple our business in the next couple of years, and I have no doubt that Campfire will support us every step of the way.”
